Custom granite and bronze memorials for Grand Rapids families crafted with care since 1873

For more than 150 years, Lowell Granite Company has helped families across Grand Rapids and Kent County honor the people they love. Choosing a memorial shouldn’t feel like a transaction so we bring dignity, artistry, and lasting quality to every headstone and monument we create. We’re family-owned, we do our own design and craftsmanship, and we treat every family the way we’d want our own treated.

A Grand Rapids Tradition Spanning Generations

Lowell Granite Company was founded in 1873 making us the oldest monument company in West Michigan. We’ve been setting memorials in the Grand Rapids area for longer than almost anyone working today, through generations of families and across nearly every cemetery in the region. That history isn’t just a point of pride; it’s the reason we already know the ground, the rules, and the people. When your family is grieving, that experience takes a weight off your shoulders.

Our shop is just east of the city in downtown Lowell, an easy drive from anywhere in Grand Rapids, Ada, or Cascade. You’re always welcome to visit, see the granite in person, and sit down with someone who will genuinely listen.

Grand Rapids–Area Cemeteries We Serve

Every cemetery sets its own rules for monument size, material, color, and placement and those rules can even change between sections of the same grounds. Because we’ve worked in these cemeteries for generations, we already know their requirements and handle the approval process for you. We regularly craft and set memorials at cemeteries throughout Grand Rapids and Kent County, including Woodlawn Cemetery, Oak Hill Cemetery, Fulton Street Cemetery, Greenwood Cemetery, Garfield Park Cemetery, Rosedale Memorial Park, Holy Cross and Mount Calvary Catholic Cemeteries, Washington Park Memorial Gardens, and Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, as well as the township cemeteries throughout Ada, Cascade, Walker, Wyoming, Kentwood, Rockford, and Grandville.

If your loved one rests somewhere not listed here, just ask, we serve all of Kent County and beyond, and we coordinate everything with the cemetery wherever they are.

What We Create

From a simple flush marker to a fully custom monument, we design and craft every memorial in-house: upright monuments (single, companion, and family); slant, bevel, and flush markers; bronze markers and plaques, including veteran memorials; cremation memorials, benches, and columbarium options; laser etching, and porcelain photo inserts; custom shapes, emblems, florals, and original artwork; final-date engraving and inscription matching at the cemetery; and granite benches, vases, and civic memorials.

Whatever helps tell your loved one’s story, we’ll find a way to bring it to life in stone that lasts for generations.

Why Grand Rapids Families Choose Us

Founded in 1873, we’re the oldest monument company in West Michigan, family-owned for over 150 years. Generations of local work mean we already understand the rules at Grand Rapids–area cemeteries, so you don’t have to navigate red tape while grieving. We design, carve, etch, and set our own work, it isn’t sent off to a factory, and we hold quality to a standard that survives Michigan winters. We give you real numbers and a clear breakdown, never a hard sell. And when you call, you’ll talk to a member of our family.

A Simple, Caring Process

We make creating a memorial as gentle as it can be. First, pick your style, browse upright, slant, bevel, flush, bench, and bronze options. Then pick your size, and we’ll confirm what your Grand Rapids cemetery allows. Finally, pick your color and design, choose granite, etching, and artwork that fit your loved one. From there, we handle the carving, the foundation, the cemetery approval, and the installation. You’re never left wondering what comes next.

Here When You’re Ready

There’s no rush and no pressure. Whether you’re planning ahead for peace of mind or caring for arrangements after a loss, we’re honored to help Grand Rapids families create a memorial worthy of the life it remembers.
